Binary Babes
Following my own research on sex robots, I created more technological pieces using a binary code translator. I wanted to further develop the idea of feminist values being ingrained into the BIMBOTS, as I envisioned these views are programmed through code in their internal systems. To show this, I translated their feminist slogans into binary code and created curvaceous silhouettes of the BOTS out of the coded messages. Unlike Frank Oz’s adaptation of The Stepford Wives,17 and Jennifer Gonzalez’s vision of feminised cyborgs as slave-like,18the BIMBOTS were made for a feminist revolution. In ‘Sex Robots and Vegan Meat’, Kleeman interviews computer scientist Dr Kate Delvin, who believes sex bot companies could potentially be betraying their customers by unknowingly collecting their data. The idea of BIMBOTS being able to secretly feed the public feminist propaganda and having their own hidden agenda is similar to this, which makes it all the more realistic.
Although these pieces are significant to the themes of my work, I did not want to continue with this style of using binary code as I found it took away the human quality of the BIMBOTS.
