'Surrender to the BIMBOTS'

For the ‘Inter’ exhibition, I brought the BIMBOTS into the physical realm by photographing my close-friend and drag artist, Vil, portraying one of the first physical BIMBOTS. Having a drag artist bring the BIMBOTS to life was important to me as this supported Judith Butler’s idea of gender being a performance, and shows that the notion of bimboism is not confined to a specific gender. In this way, I see the hyper-femininity and sexuality of drag performers as perfect for the portrayal of the BIMBOTS. After photographing Vil in their robotic make-up and using Adobe Lightroom to touch up the photos, I edited them using the glitch effects on Procreate and the use of collage. For the exhibition, I wanted to experiment further with the idea of the BIMBOTS advertising their world domination and encouraging others to join the revolution. I created four glitching GIFs with slogans such as ‘Surrender to the BIMBOTS’ and ‘Join the BIMBOTS and reclaim your sexuality’.
'Inter' Exhibition

I envisioned these exhibited around the university on digital advertising boards amongst other normal adverts, so that they would not look suspicious. Unfortunately, this was not possible and so my pieces were exhibited on the large digital screen in the Post Hall. Despite not being shown as I had wished, these GIFs were still very effective at grabbing people’s attention.
